In addition to PAR Wine Award International’s Top Gold award, the Koch Winery also received two gold medals and a silver medal at the international wine competition’s awards ceremony in Düsseldorf on Sunday.

“Among the Hungarian wineries, the Koch Winery from the lesser-known Hajós-Baja wine region won a total of four awards”, Ministerial Commissioner for Wine Sector Development Eliza Kiss stressed in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI following the awards ceremony on Sunday.

“The Koch Winery won the Top Gold award with its Villányi Csanád Cuvée, which received 96 PAR points out of a possible 100. In the red wine category, the winery’s Villányi Cabernet Sauvignon Classicus and Cabernet Sauvignon Premium wines both won gold medals with 91 and 90 PAR points, respectively, in addition to which the Koch Winery also won a silver medal”, she told the press.

“The international competition, in which vintners from 12 countries competed with each other, was an important opportunity of the Hungarian wine sector, because never before has Hungary taken part in an international wine competition of this scale”, Ms. Kiss pointed out.

Wines at the PAR Wine Award International competition are examined according to an unconventional system that particularly awards their analytical characteristics, she explained.

The competition is based on the so-called “PAR Evaluation”, which provides both wine-makers and retailers with important information on to what extent the examined products are in harmony with current consumer demands.

“The Koch Winery has been working for years on switching from traditional wine-growing to ecological farming. It now grows grapes on almost 30 hectares without using chemicals”, the Ministerial Commissioner pointed out.

Ms. Kiss told the press that the Ministry of Agriculture pays special attention to grape varieties and their goal is for Hungarians wines to take part in as many international competitions as possible and to become well-known on the international stage.

In addition to Hungary, wines from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Albania, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Georgia, Lebanon and Israel also took part in the competition.
