“There are several processes and preparations available to preserve soil moisture so farmers can cultivate crops in areas where there is no possibility of irrigation”, Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas said at the "Can drought damage be reduced?" agriculture conference on Tuesday.

In his opening speech, the Minister stressed that every opportunity should be seized to preserve soil moisture, especially in areas where there is little or no water, and that in addition to the old methods, many new solutions are also available. By combining these with more economical production, higher revenues can be achieved.

Sándor Fazekas said that the effects of climate change and extreme weather are fundamentally influencing the future of agriculture and possibilities for crop production. Farmers can be successful if they can rely on a wide-ranging professional background, which is provided for in Hungary. He noted that with the emergence of digitalisation a shift to a new era has begun in agriculture, modern solutions are becoming more widespread, and one of the greatest challenges facing agriculture is their successful application.
