International Green Week, Europe’s largest and most prestigious agriculture and food industry expo and one of the most important forums of agricultural diplomacy, opened this week, where Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas has already spent the first day holding bilateral talks with several of his fellow ministers from around the world.
In addition, Mr. Fazekas and German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Christian Schmidt signed a cooperation agreement on digitizing agriculture.
“My meeting with my fellow agriculture ministers have confirmed the fact that it is in our interests to maintain the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) and the current situation following 2020”, Mr. Fazekas told the press. “The post-2020 funding system is currently in preparation and it is very important that we find partners with whom we can ensure that the funding provided to farmers does not decrease in the next programming period. My negotiating partners and I agreed that we need an agricultural policy that supports farmers and is simpler than the current one”, the Minister said.
Mr. Fazekas announced: He and German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Christian Schmidt have concluded a cooperation agreement on the digitizing of agriculture. “Exploiting the opportunities provided by the digitizing of agriculture enables farmers to produce more successfully, more efficiently and more profitably.
Precision farming takes into account different production conditions and alters tasks accordingly. The digitizing of agriculture is an unstoppable process and its application represents a major competitive advantage compared to those who are not yet doing so. In Hungary, complex precision farming is currently being performed on 40 thousand hectares”, the Minister added.
