The Hungarian defence minister has proposed that NATO should set up a 40-strong integration unit in Hungary.
Csaba Hende attended a meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels. Speaking to Hungarian reporters, Hende said that half of the NATO Forces Integration Unit (NFIU) staff would come from other NATO countries while the rest would come from the Hungarian armed forces.
He proposed Székesfehervár in western Hungary as a prospective location where the government would provide an upgraded facility.
NATO made a decision earlier on creating a 5,000-strong unit which can be deployed rapidly, within 48 hours.
A decision was also taken on setting up integration unit to facilitate the deployment of the rapid forces in the region.
