In view of the continuously increasing migration pressure, State Secretary for Parliamentary Afffairs Szilárd Németh from the Ministry of Defence has convened a session of the Fidesz parliamentary group’s anti-immigration cabinet. At a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday, the government party politician heading the body called the migration situation that has developed on the country’s southern border and in the Western Balkans very serious, dangerous, and a warning to everyone.

“Some one hundred thousand migrants are accumulating on the Western Balkan, and although the situation is currently orderly, the situation is beginning to compare to the major crisis in 2015, and if the migrants are allowed to reach the Hungarian border it could lead to major trouble; this is something we must prepare for”, Mr. Németh said. “This is one of the reasons why it is important that the state of emergency caused by mass immigration was extended in September, since this is what provides a suitable legal basis for the protection of the border”, he added.

“It is also important that the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has declared that being in a transit zone is not equal to being imprisoned, and accordingly everything that the pro-immigration forces have lied about at the request of their masters, whether with relation to the transit zones or the state of emergency relating to mass immigration, has totally collapsed”, Mr. Németh said.

“The Western Balkans is the key to the security of Europe and Hungary”, the Fidesz politician declared in reply to a question, pointing out that this is why the government supported the NATO membership of the region’s countries.

“The events of recent weeks indicate that the migrants are now even attempting to enter the country underground, through tunnels”, he added, thanking the military personnel and police who are guarding the border for “protecting the country’s independence and the freedom and security of the Hungarian people so effectively”. In view of the situation that has developed, he has convened a session of the anti-immigration cabinet for next Monday, the State Secretary announced.

Fidesz’s anti-immigration cabinet was formed on 11 October 2018. At the time, Mr. Németh reported on the fact that Members of Parliament from all over the country had been invited to be part of the 17-member body.
