“The Fidesz-KDNP majority and the government in Hungary are doing everything possible to assure that the fence remains in place and its guarding by military and police personnel continues, and that the transit zones continue to function”, the Ministry of Defence’s Parliamentary State Secretary declared in a statement to public media at the Röszke transit zone on Sunday.

“The decision of the Luxembourg-based Court of Justice of the European Union wants to force Hungary to demolish the border security fence and the transit zone”, Mr. Németh told the press. “Despite the fact that for the past six years, since the major wave of migration in 2015, the border security fence, the police officers and military personnel guarding the border, and the transit zone have together served the peace and security of Hungary and Europe”, he highlighted. “Now, the ‘people of the Soros network’ want this to stop. This stands in stark contrast to the will of the Hungarian people and to the country’s Constitution”, the State Secretary declared.

“This is particularly dangerous with relation to the coronavirus pandemic”, he highlighted. “The borders in Europe will soon be reopened, and the opening of the borders will lead to an increase in migration pressure”, he added.

“Migration movement has been relatively low over the past two months as a result of the national border closures introduced because of the coronavirus pandemic, but 37 illegal migrants were already apprehended along the Hungarian borer on Friday alone”, Mr. Németh added.

“Now, in addition to preventing ‘freeloaders and terrorists’ from entering Europe, we must also prevent migrants from entering via locations that are infected with the virus and from virus outbreak sites”, the State Secretary emphasised.
