On the TV2 programme “Mokka” on the morning of Friday 11 September, Minister of Defence István Simicskó stated that there are already 3,800 soldiers near Hungary’s southern border.

He said that participation in building the border fence is currently the soldiers’ primary task, and confirmed the news that a ten-kilometre length of barrier is being built every day.

Talking about Operation Determined Action 2015, which started on Wednesday 9 September, he said that, in cooperation with the police, the Hungarian Defence Forces are responsible for maintaining security, because “the fence is not enough: there is a need for personnel to patrol the border area”.
