According to Minister of Defence István Simicskó, there will be enough manpower for border protection, which is providing a permanent task for the Hungarian Defence Force.

Speaking on M1 Hungarian television’s Saturday morning current affairs program, the Minister said that security was the priority and both police and military personnel were willing to make the sacrifice required to achieve it.

“The establishment of the border protection system is going ahead according to schedule and conditions have also improved for military personnel”, he added. Mr. Simickó promised to protect the country against any level of migration pressure.

He also spoke about the fact that the military must be acknowledged, and this is one of the reasons why they are receiving a 5 percent pay rise and their salaries will be increasing further in future.

Mr. Simicskó also said that a new recruitment campaign would be launched in February, primarily aimed at young people. According to the Minister, the goal is to increase the number of reserve forces by one thousand and establish territorial defence units for each district.
