The National Scientific Students’ Associations Conference was held for the thirty-fourth time. At the opening of the military and law enforcement studies section, Defence Minister Tibor Benkő delivered a speech.
The most prestigious scientific student event, the National Scientific Students’ Associations conference was held once again. The primary purpose of the event is to encourage the scientific and artistic activities of students’ associations and to support talented students. The military and law enforcement studies section was hosted by the Óbuda University. At the opening, speakers highlighted that interest in this section has been growing steadily for years, and this year students submitted 166 applications.
In his welcome address, Defence Minister Tibor Benkő drew attention to the importance of the scientific work of young people. He said the participants of the conference are pursuing their studies in a radically changing world in which it is not enough to keep up with changes, one must also seek to anticipate them. “This is the high-speed world, one of the most important segments of which is the issue of security for which we – generations of the present and you, the generation of the future – are all responsible. This is why your scientific commitment is of the utmost significance,” the Defence Minister said.
Regarding the defence and military development programme, the Minister pointed out that this long-term project involves not only the procurement of cutting-edge military equipment; scientific development, research and innovation play an equally important part in the programme. He mentioned as examples the centre for cyber defence and research which will start its operation shortly and the digital soldier programme.
Mihály Réger, Rector of the University stressed in his welcome speech that the Óbuda University is committed to talent fostering, of which the scientific activities of students’ associations form the most important part. He said this event is a focal point of the enormous amount of energy and effort that is behind an event such as this.
As part of the professional-leisure time programme of the three days of the conference, a roundtable discussion on the issue of the development of defence capabilities and the arms industry will be held with the participation of military, law enforcement and government actors.
