Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Bosnian Deputy Foreign Minister Josip Brkić agreed to re-establish rail transport between Budapest and Sarajevo as soon as possible during a meeting on Thursday.

In a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that Péter Szijjártó had received the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia-Hercegovina in his office on Thursday. Mr. Brkić asked that Hungary continue to support his country’s NATO and EU integration processes.

Mr. Szijjártó said that it was in Hungary’s fundamental interests for there to be peace and stability in the Western Balkans and that the best road to achieving this was via Euro-Atlantic integration, and accordingly Hungary welcomes the fact that last week Bosnia-Hercegovina officially submitted its request to join the European Union.

Mr, Szijjártó assured the Deputy Foreign Minister of Hungary’s continued commitment to supporting Bosnia-Hercegovina’s EU and NATO integration efforts.

The parties agreed to re-establish rail transport between Budapest and Sarajevo as soon as possible and to take the necessary steps to also establish a direct motorway link.
