“Recent American criticism all stems from the same source; George Soros’s dissatisfaction with the Hungarian government is what appears in the Clinton family’s communication”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Wednesday in a telephone statement to Hungarian news agency MTI.

Mr. Szijjártó was speaking from the Bulgarian capital Sofia, where he is taking part in a Council of Europe Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

As he explained, “George Soros is dissatisfied with today’s Hungarian government and would like another government to administer Hungary, and it seems to us that it is this dissatisfaction that is now appearing in American criticism”. Mr. Szijjártó pointed out that George Soros has a close relationship with former U.S. President Bill Clinton and his Presidential candidate hopeful wife Hillary Clinton, and has always backed the politics of the Clinton family.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister was speaking in reaction to statements over the weekend by Bill Clinton according to which the Poles and the Hungarians have the United States to thank for their freedom, but despite this they have now decided that democracy is too much trouble and so they want an authoritarian, Putin-style leadership, while on Tuesday U.S. Ambassador Coleen Bell said the statement was Bull Clinton’s private opinion made as a private individual.

However, Mr. Szijjártó pointed out that the facts refute the recent statements “because American companies regularly place their capital, and with it their trust, in Hungary”. In 2015, the USA was Hungary’s biggest foreign investor outside the European Union and last year the Unites States was also the Hungarian economy’s biggest export market outside the EU”, he said, stressing that “Hungarian-American economic cooperation is a success story, and this could not be the case if American capital and American corporations did not have confidence in Hungary”.
