Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó held talks with British Brexit Minister David Davis, during which the parties confirmed that it is in the interests of both the European Union and Great Britain for the exit negotiations to end with an agreement.

In a statement regarding the meeting issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Minister said defending the rights of European Union citizens living and working in Great Britain is particularly important to Hungary. Mr. Szijjártó welcomed the fact that the intent to come to an agreement on the issue is also strong on the part of the British.
The agreement on future cooperation between the European Union and Great Britain must include an extremely ambitious free trade agreement which is as detailed and wide-ranging as possible, and which enables the maintaining of the most unhindered possible trade, economic and investment relations, the Hungarian Foreign Minister highlighted. In addition, the establishing of a wide-ranging defence partnership is also important in view of the determining role played by Great Britain in the EU’s military missions, the Ministry’s statement reads.
