“It must be ensured that anyone born Hungarian anywhere in the world can remain Hungarian” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó declared at the Fidesz annual part congress in Budapest on Sunday.

In his speech, Mr. Szijjártó assured Hungarians living in Transcarpathia of the Government’s special support.

The Minister said protecting Hungarian national interests and Christian values were the responsibility of independent Hungarian foreign policy, because in his view the idea of a nation and Christian values are currently most in danger in Europe.

Mr. Szijjártó said it was alarming that in Western European capitals decisions are constantly being made that are aimed there being even more illegal immigrants and as few Christian symbols as possible.

“As representatives of a thousand-year-old Christian nation, we cannot allow any of this”, Mr. Szijjártó declared, stressing: “Hungary will not allow some people to turn Europe into a ‘melting pot’, loosen national frameworks and make us forget our history”.

“Those who want to establish a kind of United States of Europe in fact want the demise of Europe and all European nations”, the Minister said.

He pointed out that during the past two years all of the responses to the European crisis that proved to be successful were made at national-level and not in Brussels. “Brussels didn’t stop the wave of illegal immigration, Hungary built a fence; it was we who proved that illegal immigration, which represents an immense danger to Europe, can indeed be stopped”, he highlighted.

According to Mr. Szijjártó, however, “The worst is yet to come, because immense forces are working on flooding Europe with illegal immigrants”.

“We cannot enter this battle if we are scared stiff, however”, he said, promising that “Hungarian foreign policy will remain Hungarian foreign policy and we will continue to not allow them to mess with us in future”. “Because those who are scared stiff are trampled over”, he added.

“It must be ensured that anyone born Hungarian anywhere in the world can remain Hungarian” the Minister also emphasised.

Mr. Szijjártó sent a special message to Transcarpathian Hungarians, telling them: “You are not alone”. “We will continue fighting until the rights you have been stripped of are returned, until all Transcarpathian Hungarians can study in their own native language, and until it becomes clear to everyone that removing rights from minorities is unacceptable in Europe today”, Mr. Szijjártó declared.
