“The meeting of the Budapest Process in Istanbul resulted in a clash between Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and one of George Soros’s men”, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tamás Menczer said on Wednesday in the Turkish capital in the recess of the 6th ministerial-level session of the Budapest Process, in reply to a question from Hungarian news agency MTI.

“The Hungarian Foreign Minister represented the interests of the European people, but Brussels Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos exclusively stressed the rights of migrants, and during his ten-minute speech did not say a single word about the rights and security of the people of Europe”, Mr. Menczer explained. “According to Péter Szijjártó, people who travel through a safe country are not refugees, migration is not a fundamental human right, and the security of the European people is paramount”, he also pointed out. “The trouble should not be brought into Europe; assistance must be taken to where the trouble is”, he said, quoting Mr. Szijjártó.

The Minister of State noted that EU Commissioner Avramopoulos, who is extremely pro-immigration, was visibly offended by the words of the Hungarian Minister, and threatened countries that do not cooperate in resettling immigrants in Europe. In his speech, Péter Szijjártó stressed that it is extremely important to underline that all decisions on migration must remain at the level of national sovereignty and competence, and that national decisions must be respected by everyone else. “Hungary believes that a given country and nation has its own right to decide to whom allow entry into their territory, and who they want to live with”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade emphasised. Mr. Szijjártó stressed that he is totally opposed to the approach according to which migration is the best response to labour market and demographic challenges. “In Hungary’s opinion, migration is a bad response, but we respect the decisions of other countries and we expect the same”.
