“Because of the coronavirus epidemic, we recommend that people planning to travel to Northern Italy only decide on the visit following careful consideration and balancing”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s State Secretary for Information and the International Representation of Hungary Tamás Menczer said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Sunday.

Later, the State Secretary also published Milanese and Roman helpline telephone numbers on his Facebook page. The State Secretary drew attention to the health risk, and t the fact that if the Italian authorities decide that the introduction of quarantining is necessary, then anyone in the given settlement will not be able to leave that settlement until the quarantine is lifted. “The Ministry asks that people who are currently in Italy follow the information and warnings issued by the local authorities, and obey their instructions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is continuously monitoring events and providing information regarding all necessary measures”, Mr. Menczer indicated.

“We are ready and available in Milan and Rome to help any Hungarian citizens who find themselves in trouble in Italy. Our helplines are open on +39 3396219517 in Milano and +39 348 800 8159 in Rome for anyone truly in trouble”, he wrote on his Facebook page. “It is good news that we have not received any emergency calls with relation to the coronavirus to date”, Mr. Menczer highlighted.

The number of new coronavirus patients in the Northern Italian region of Lombardy has increased to 90, the region’s councillor for welfare Giulio Gallera stated on SkyTg24 news television on Sunday.
