“Commuters can now use eight border crossing points along the Hungarian-Romanian border”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
Mr. Szijjártó recalled that both the Hungarian and Romanian government have introduced strict restrictions to personal traffic along their borders in the interests of slowing the spread of the coronavirus epidemic. “However, these measures have put everyone whose place of work or farmland lie on the other side of the border in a difficult situation, and taking into account their interests we have previously come to an agreement with the Romanian government on the opening of three border crossing points to commuters”, the Minister wrote.
“Based on our positive experiences and in the interests of making life even easier for communities living near the border, we have now expanded the previous agreement to enable people who need to cross the border to work or to tend to their farmland to use a total of eight border crossing points. Since Easter, commuters have been able to cross the border at the Csengersima, a Vállaj, a Létavértes, Ártánd, Méhkerék, Gyula, Nagylak and Kiszombor border crossing points”, the Minister explained.
