“It is not a good feeling if one’s friends are not on good terms, and it is particularly bad if all this occurs within international politics, and Cyprus, Greece and Turkey are all friends of ours”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.
Mr. Szijjártó said it is particularly regrettable that tensions between the aforementioned states are growing because of the search for energy sources around Cyprus. “I hope that common sense eventually wins the day, and that instead of mutual threats and sanctions dialogue will mean the path towards the solution”, he added. Hungary’s chief diplomat said he had spoken by telephone with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu and his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides, and hopes the two parties will soon come to an agreement.
