The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Deputy State Secretary for European and American Affairs Kristóf Altusz paid a working visit to the United Kingdom on 13 February 2018.
During his meeting with the British Foreign Minister’s deputy cabinet chief Nicholas Wareham, Mr. Altusz presented the achievements and targets of Hungary’s 2017-2018 presidency of the Visegrád Group (V4), among which he highlighted the V4’s intent to increase cooperation with the British. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Director for Brexit and European Affairs, Lindsay Appleby briefed Mr. Altusz on the current status of the exit negotiations and provided detailed information on the planned future relationship between the European Union and Great Britain. The Deputy State Secretary also met with the FCO’s Deputy Director for Central Europe Mark Gooding and Deputy Director for U.S. Affairs Adam Bye, with whom he discussed the Ukrainian Education Act, the migration crisis affecting Europe and transatlantic relations.
Mr. Altusz also met with Chairman of the House of Commons’ Hungary Group Bob Neill, with whom he discussed the current challenges facing Europe.
At a meeting at the British Prime Minister’s Office, the main subject of discussion was the further development of British-Hungarian relations.
