Deputy State Secretary for European and American Relations Kristóf Altusz was on an official visit to North America from 25-30 April 2016, during the course of which he met with members of the Hungarian communities of New York and Connecticut, opened the first regional diaspora meeting organised by the Consulate General in New York, held negotiations with representatives of Brooklyn’s Hungarian-rooted Jewish community and visited the Freedom House international politics institute.
During the Canadian section of his official visit, Mr. Altusz held meetings at the Canadian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Migration in Ottawa and at the Ministry of Tourism in Toronto. The political talks centred on the crisis in Ukraine, the energy security situation in Central Europe, possible ways of handing the migration crisis, Canadian-Hungarian economic relations and a suitable North American commemoration of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
The Deputy State Secretary’s consultations with Hungarian communities in New York and Canada are linked to the Hungarian Government’s policy of maintaining close relations with the Hungarian diaspora living abroad.
