The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Minister of State for Economic Diplomacy, Levente Magyar, discussed the launching of a direct air passenger route in Tunisia on Monday.

In a statement to Hungarian news agency MIT by telephone from Tunis, Mr. Magyar said he had held negotiations with several officials from the Tunisian Foreign Ministry and held a lecture for experts on Hungarian experiences and corrected mistakes with relation to merging the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was greeted with great interest.

“The launching of a direct air passenger route is justified by the fact that these days Hungarian tourists fill five chartered planes every week instead of the previous two”, he said, adding that “Increased interest is also underpinned by the security situations: the authorities in Tunisia are keeping things in hand, as also proven by the fact that there have been no terrorist attacks against tourists in the country during the past year”.

According to the Minister of State, an official Tunisian delegation will arrive in Budapest next week to finalise the agreement on launching a direct air passenger route. “Tunisair flights between the two countries are expected to begin next year”, Mr. Magyar said.
