Following a meeting with Director for European Affairs at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Per Fabricius Andersen in Copenhagen, Deputy State Secretary for EU and US relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kristóf Altusz said that establishing peace in Syria is crucial to achieving results in halting migration flows to Europe.
Mr. Altusz emphasised that greater emphasis should be placed on helping countries in the vicinity of crisis zones in order to allow migrants to live close to their countries of origin in a safe and well-organised environment until they can return to their homes.
Mr. Altusz also said that he agreed with Mr. Andersen to jointly represent and urge this position at an EU level as well.
The two politicians agreed that in order to manage the migration crisis the systematic protection of the Schengen borders is needed. It is important that migrants are admitted through the EU’s borders in a controlled and well-regulated manner that functions based on EU legislation.
The Deputy State Secretary pointed out that the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Government will organise a joint forum in Budapest to provide business ventures the opportunity of joining the work of the WHO. One practical realisation of this endeavour could be Hungarian pharmaceutical companies participating in aid procedures.
Mr. Altusz also held talks with Head of the Danish delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Cecilie Felicia Banke. Praising the achievements of the Hungarian IHRA presidency, Ms. Banke highlighted the legal amendment that allows unlimited access to archive materials related to the Holocaust.
According to experts of the Member States in the field, this has been the greatest achievement of IHRA so far, Mr. Altusz emphasised.
