According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, Europe wants to punish countries that do not want to allow entry to illegal immigrants.

At a press conference in Budapest on Thursday, Mr. Szijjártó said in reaction to a statement by Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern that there is a war underway in Europe against countries that are refusing to accept illegal immigrants, and this war has two instruments: legal and financial threats.

In a statement to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on Wednesday, Christian Kern said that EU funding for Hungary and Poland should be reduced if they contravene EU regulations.

At his press conference, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said there exists a “Soros plan” concerning how to use threats to convince countries to accept migrants.

“With his statement, the Austrian Chancellor has joined those left-wing, liberal politicians who support this plan, and has declared that he wants to take away the funding that is due in accordance with the EU treaties”, he added.

Mr. Szijjártó stressed that the Austro-Hungarian Empire no longer exists, decisions on Hungary’s future are not made in Vienna, and asked the Austrian Chancellor to ”stop yearning” for the funding that is due to the Hungarians.

In response to the Chancellor's statement on solidarity, Mr. Szijjártó said that no other country is showing more solidarity with Austria than Hungary, because by protecting the EU’S external border, Hungary is also protecting Austria.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister asked the EU to stop behaving like Mother Theresa, because they are not distributing humanitarian aid, but the funding in question are monies to which Hungary is due within the framework of economic cooperation.
