“Hungary is representing itself with 122 athletes in 14 sports at the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus”, Tamás Menczer said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s State Secretary for Information and the International Representation of Hungary added: “It is a wonderful opportunity that a Hungarian pavilion will also be promoting the country in the fan zone”.

As he pointed out, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is placing great emphasis on sport diplomacy, with a separate department established last year that has already funded 150 Hungary-related projects all over the world.

“Hungary can rightly be proud of the fact that this year it will be hosting the world championships in table tennis, fencing, kayak-canoe and pentathlon, and this year Hungary is the European capital of sport”, he declared.

Mr. Menczer held talks with Minister of Sport and Tourism Vyacheslav Durnov, with whom he agreed that sport brings people closer together, and agreed to engage in further cooperation.

The State Secretary also met with Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Kravchenko. In the opinion of both politicians, Europe’s security and competitiveness is furthered if the continent’s western and eastern halves cooperate with each other.
