On Tuesday Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian News Agency MTI that it is high time to finally deal with reality because European people must be protected.

In his statement, the Minister reacted to Tuesday’s declaration of German Minister of State for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office Michael Roth, who said that regarding the migrant issue, the European Union has to enforce constitutional regulations in Hungary as well. Furthermore, the fight against terrorism should not be mixed with migration, not even in the case of Hungary, he added.

According to the German Minister of State, Europe must remain united after last Friday's terror attacks in Paris; if these attacks were directed against European values, those values should be protected. In terms of the migrant issue, he outlined that decision makers need to be driven by humanity and solidarity.

Regarding the statement, Péter Sziijártó said: “Michael Roth's words do not have much to do with reality at the moment.” Hungary is a rule of law and it follows common European rules, even when other countries fail to do so, he explained. The Minister also declared: in accordance with every common European regulation, Hungary is doing everything in its power to protect its own and the external Schengen borders. As a result, the country has put a stop to the flow of unidentified illegal immigrants crossing through its territory.

Mr. Szijjártó outlined: "We are not saying that every immigrant is necessarily a terrorist. What we are saying is that no one can tell how many terrorists have arrived in Europe together with the migrants, and how many more arrive day by day."

Some European leaders are making shocking statements after the Paris terror attacks, and now the German Minister of State also joined this group, opined Mr. Szijjártó, who believes that "it would be time to deal with reality instead of vague ideas because the people of Europe must be protected".

According to the Minister, we need to create humane conditions as close as possible to the homes of those who had to leave their homeland because of war so that they can return after the end of the war. He added: our duty is to help these people get back their old life, rather than to give them a new European one.
