The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has told national news agency MTI that on Thursday the foreign ministers of Hungary, Greece and Bulgaria held a meeting in Luxembourg to discuss the future energy supply of Central and South Eastern Europe.

The statement expresses the parties’ concern at the fact that the European Commission is doing nothing to prevent the extension of the North Stream pipeline, while “they have put significant pressure on Central European and Western Balkan countries, in order to undermine the South Stream project”.
The expansion of the North Stream pipeline’s capacity also means the circumvention of Ukraine, just as the South Stream would have, they said.

At their meeting, the ministers agreed that the energy security of the region is in the interest of the whole of Europe, and is therefore the responsibility of the European Union. Their statement reads that they have therefore urged the European Commission to make it clear which projects it wishes to support as contributors to the region’s energy security.
