Deputy State Secretary Kristóf Altusz has summoned the temporary chargés d’affaires of the United States and Germany on Wednesday to discuss the Act on Higher Education”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade informed Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday.
According to the statement, all institutions of higher education must conform to the relative regulations.
“This is the only aim of the legislative amendment adopted today”, the Ministry stated, stressing that “all claims to the contrary are false, and for this reason Kristóf Altusz has summoned the temporary chargés d’affaires of the embassies of the United States of America and Germany in Budapest to meet with him tomorrow”.
On Tuesday, the National Assembly adopted the bill on the amendment of the Act on Higher Education, according to which in future foreign institutions of higher education that provide diplomas can only operate in Hungary if their operations are in principle supported by an intergovernmental agreement.
The Rector of the Central European University (CEU), Michael Ignatieff, has stated that he will be asking President of the Republic János Áder to order a constitutional review of the amendment to the Act on Higher Education.
