Speaking on Kossuth Radio’s “180 Minutes” program on Tuesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said with relation to the fact that George Soros is holding talks with Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans that we are talking about two people who are excessively pro-immigration. “We also know that both are the committed enemies of the Hungarian Government and Hungarian migration policy”, he said, adding that both wanted the fall of the recently re-elected Hungarian Government.

“The Fidesz-KDNP coalition won a historic victory at the elections, which George Soros, Frans Timmermans and the civil organisations they support cannot or will not accept”, he added.

In reply to a question, Mr. Szijjártó said the pressure that is being applied to the Hungarian Government because of its migration policy is continuing, and will in fact increase. “However, the Government, thanks to the record turnout at the elections and its record share of the vote, has a level of public support that will enable it to resist even the highest pressure”, he declared.

With relation to Monday’s meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, Mr. Szijjártó said Syria had also been a subject of the negotiations. The EU foreign ministers made it clear that they reject the deployment of chemical weapons, which they regard as a serious crime, and declared that the perpetrators cannot remain unpunished.

It was also stated that the goal in Syria is to find a political and peaceful solution to the crisis, to enable refugees to return home and live in safety.

The Minister also told the press that in addition to retaliation, the exclusive goal of Saturday’s joint American-British-French air strikes against Syrian chemical weapons production facilities was to prevent future chemical weapons attacks.

“Russia’s role in the issue is unavoidable, and efforts to resolve the situation can only be effective if the Western and astern powers succeed in working together”, Mr. Szijjártó emphasised.
