The Hungarian Government and Danish company LEGO concluded a cooperation agreement on joint efforts within the field of education on Tuesday in Budapest.
The document was signed by Minister of State for Economic Diplomacy Levente Magyar from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Mr. Brian J. Baptista, Executive Director for Global Public Affairs at LEGO Education, the Lego Group’s education and teaching section.
Mr. Baptista stressed that the company is committed to training the generation of the future and their teaching method built on LEGO equipment facilitates a better learning of knowledge, problem-solving and creativity.
Government Commissioner for Digital Content Development Judit Czunyiné Bertalan highlighted that the agreement opens the opportunity for the globally successful program to begin operating in Hungarian schools.
“We have been working since 2015 so that LEGO’s internationally acclaimed teaching method can also become available to Hungarian children”, the Government Commissioner told reporters.
“LEGO’s teaching programme helps motivate children and will facilitate the Government’s strategy for the improved inclusion of disadvantaged regions. The new methodology supports the knowledge of various subjects through basic ability development and will enable young people to get ahead on the job market with more active, creative and competitive knowledge”, she explained.
“LEGO’s method for teaching mathematics has been tested in more than 50 schools and experiences indicate that the method provides a new approach and opportunity to teach the subject”, she continued.
Part of the cooperation includes drawing attention to opportunities for play-orientated teaching and learning through teacher training courses, and working jointly with Hungarian higher education institutions. The goal is to enable the teaching package to remain uniquely Hungarian.
Mr. Magyar praised LEGO, which chose Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County as the site of its largest Central European investment project, for also cooperating to introduce innovative teaching methods in Hungary.
