According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, the FIA European Truck Racing Championships race weekend, which has been held at Hungary’s motorsport race track Hungaroring for the third year in succession, is a good opportunity to draw attention to the heavy goods vehicle sector of the Hungarian automotive industry, which is the backbone of the economy.
On the race day of the Hungarian stop of the European Truck Racing Championships on Sunday, the Minister told Hungarian news agency MTI that in the upcoming years, issues relating to the development of the heavy goods vehicle (HGV) industry would receive significantly greater attention during the promotion of automotive industry investments.
“The fact that Hungary is a sports superpower can no longer be questioned following the events of this summer. In addition to the FINA Aquatics World Championships, we hosted the Formula One Grand Prix, Győr was home to the European Youth Olympic Festival, the FIA European Truck Racing Championships is ongoing and the 2017 Wrestling World Championships will be held in Budapest next week”, Mr. Szijjártó said. “The event taking place at Hungaroring this weekend is also important because the automotive industry is not just about the manufacturing of cars, and the heavy goods vehicle sector is one of the front-runners with relation to the modernisation of the automotive industry”, he added.
“It could easily be the case that electromobility developments will appear earlier in trucks than in cars, and accordingly it is time to concentrate to a similar extent on the heavy goods vehicle sector within the automotive industry, which provides the backbone of the Hungarian economy”, the Minister declared. According to Mr. Szijjártó, the automotive industry enterprises already operating in Hungary must be made to realise that they can also count on the country to a greater extent within the field of HGV production.
