Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received a bipartisan delegation of United States Members of Congress on Friday in Budapest. “The system of relations between Hungary and the United States of America have never been as highly developed as they are now”, he said at the event.
In a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade explained that the United States is now Hungary’s number one export market outside the European Union and was the second largest source of foreign investment in Hungary last year. The one thousand six hundred American enterprises operating in Hungary currently provide work for a total of one hundred thousand people.
Hungary is proud of the fact that Hungarian soldiers are serving together with their American colleagues in several places around the world, including both Kurdistan and Afghanistan, the statement also said.
Europe has never had to simultaneously face so many serious challenges as it does now since the Second World War, the Ministry’s statement reads.
