Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó is attending the summit of NATO Member States in Warsaw on Friday and Saturday, on the sidelines of which he met with Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki to discuss, amongst others, immigration.
In a statement issued to Hungarian news agency MTI by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Friday, Mr. Szijjártó stressed: “Hungary is a committed supporter of Macedonia’s NATO integration efforts”.
“Macedonia has played a key role in stopping the wave of immigration, and accordingly Hungary will continue to provide all necessary assistance to Macedonia to enable the continued protection of the Greek-Macedonian green border”, he continued.
“The countries of the Western Balkans can only stop the wave of immigration if their stability is assured, to which their membership of NATO would contribute significantly”, the Minister said, adding that “for this reason Hungary supports NATO expansion in the Western Balkans”.
