“Hungarian-Polish cooperation continues to be close; the two countries are continuously discussing their moves”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Mr. Szijjártó pointed out that Poland’s new Foreign Minister, Zbigniew Rau, was appointed on Wednesday, adding that he liked working with his previous Polish counterpart, Jacek Czaputowicz, but is also glad to enter into cooperation with the new foreign minister. Mr. Szijjártó said he had congratulated his new colleague by telephone, and both parties had praised the hundreds of years of friendship and alliance that exist between the two countries. They agreed that they will be working in close cooperation within the European Union, and will be continuously discussing their moves, with particular emphasis on the attacks against them, he added. The Minister also mentioned that the parties had confirmed that the protection of Christian communities and values will remain an important issue for both countries. The Hungarian Foreign Minister offered all possible assistance towards a successful Polish presidency of the Visegrád Group. Mr. Szijjártó noted that he will be meeting with his new Polish counterpart within the next few days at the upcoming session of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Berlin, as well as at a strategic forum in Bled, Slovenia.
