Minister of State for Security Policy and International Cooperation István Mikola spoke in representation of Hungary at the 7th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, under the topic: Living Together in Inclusive Societies.

In his speech, the Minister of State pointed out that social, economic and political exclusion and religious intolerance can lead to isolation and radicalisation, and thus provide a breeding ground for violent extremism.

Mr. Mikola highlighted the fact that the realisation of sustainable development goals is in our mutual interests and is a vital part of the establishment and preservation of global peace and security. These far-reaching goals can only be achieved through an extensive international cooperation. Hungary remains deeply committed to achieving these goals, the Minster of State declared.

The realisation of sustainable development goals is of key importance in the establishment of inclusive societies. As an example, Mr. Mikola pointed out that the creation of a more hopeful alternative future can be an effective antidote to violent extremism and radicalisation. The development of quality education and the broad provision of meaningful work opportunities, as well as assuring the prerequisites for peace and security, all play an important role in achieving successful economic and social development.
