“Hungary has increased its funding for the cohesion of the developing world to 285 million dollars”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó indicted in New York at a conference on the state of the least developed nations held on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“With relation to solving the migration crisis, Hungary professes the principle that assistance must be taken to where it is required”, the Minister reminded those present. “This assistance is also aimed at ensuring that people do not emigrate from these countries, but are able to live a dignified life in their own homelands”, he added.
“This year, Hungary has increased its aid to Africa by four hundred percent to 25.6 million dollars, while the financial assistance it is providing to the least developed nations has increased sevenfold to 29 million dollars”, Mr. Szijjártó said.
“The largest programmes being realised with Hungarian funding have been launched in Laos within the field of water management, where the level of funding has reached 29 million dollars. In addition, Hungary is providing 4873 scholarships places each year to students from Africa, Asia and South America, to enable them to study at Hungarian universities and acquire knowledge that is capable of competing with that of the developed world, so that they can contribute to their country’s development upon returning home”, the Minister explained.
In another speech, Mr. Szijjártó announced that Hungary has also donated 20 thousand dollars to the UN fund to prevent acts of violence against women and girls, and to assist people who have become victims of violence.
In addition, Hungary is also supporting the activities of the International Red Cross, which are aimed at assuring that sexual offenses are not committed against defenceless people during the course of humanitarian crises, with a donation of 25 thousand dollars.
