Deputy State Secretary for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ádám Zoltán Kovács gave a speech at a high-level segment of the United Nations Human Righty Council’s (UNHCR) 31st session in Geneva.
In his speech the Deputy State Secretary emphasised that Hungary is committed to the universality of human rights, and it makes continuous efforts to promote human rights and fundamental freedoms, with a special emphasis on minority rights and fields of democracy and the rule of law. Mr. Kovács pointed out that Hungary’s commitment is both proven by its close cooperation with the UN’s human rights mechanism and the annual Budapest Human Rights Forum being organised since 2008. Hungary will continue to make further contributions to the increasingly effective operations of the UNHCR, and it has also requested the UN’s support to its application for membership for the 2017-2019 period.
On 2 March, Mr. Kovács also gave a speech at a high-level segment of the Community of Democracies’ Governing Council session.
