“The acceptance of the technical plan in early October was a milestone with relation to the Paks Nuclear Power Plant project, and the most important next task from the perspective of construction is the preparation of the establishment licence application and its submission to the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority by 30 June of next year”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said at a meeting with Director General of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev in Budapest on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued to Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Minister highlighted: “The construction of three construction site buildings is already underway and the control technology tender has also come to a successful close, being won by a consortium established between French company Framatom and German company Siemens”. “Accordingly, through the construction of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, Hungary is providing an important platform for East-West economic cooperation”, he emphasised.

“U.S. corporation General Electric is the largest supplier to the investment project, the chief contractor of which is Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom. Accordingly, the Paks expansion is an important investment project being realised in Russian, American, French, German and Hungarian cooperation, which will be providing the electricity required to assure the competitive functioning of the Hungarian economy in the long term”, Mr. Szijjártó explained according to the statement.
