At the award ceremony of the Chinese-Hungarian Friendship Awards held on Friday in Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said that Hungary is the bridgehead of China’s economic expansion in Europe, and cooperation between the two countries is at its highest level since the diplomatic relations between Hungary and China began 66 years ago. The Eastward Opening Policy goes back to these roots.
Since the political transition after the Fall of Communism, deepening economic cooperation with China was an important aim for all Hungarian governments, the Minister added. “We are working to encourage more and more Chinese companies to invest their capital and trust here”, Mr. Szijjártó stressed.
The award was given to former Prime Minister of the Socialist – Free Democrat Government formed in 2002 Péter Medgyessy for his efforts to improve Chinese-Hungarian relations, and CEO of the Hungarian branch of the Bank of China to Chen Huaiyu.
