“Hungary has offered its assistance to the Thai Government to help rescue the junior football team that has been trapped in the Tham Luang cave system”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on Monday in Budapest.
Mr. Szijjártó told reporters: “We in Hungary are naturally also waiting with bated breath to see if the Thai rescue mission is successful, as is the whole world. We very much hope that all members of the football team and their coach will be successfully rescued from the cave”.
“Hungary’s cave rescue service is internationally recognised and the Ministry has made contact with the head of the cave rescue team”, he said. “We have indicated to the Thai Government that if further cave rescue capacity is required then Hungary is prepared to engage in cooperation between the Thai Government and the Hungarian cave rescue service”, the Minister told the press.
“We have also consulted with Caritas Hungary with relation to the possible provision of future aid, and the organisation is also ready to provide assistance as requested by the Thai administration”, Mr Szijjártó also stated.
As he explained, the Thai Government thanked Hungary for its offer of assistance, adding that offers of some kind of assistance had arrived from practically every country and if Hungary’s assistance is required they will indicate it in time to enable the necessary measures to be taken.
On Sunday, four of the 12 members of the junior football team were successfully rescued from the Tham Luang cave system and a second rescue team set out on Monday morning. The group of children aged between 11 and 16 and their 25-year-old coach have been trapped in the cave, which became flooded as a result of monsoon rains, since 23 June.
