“From midnight tonight, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic will be opening their borders to each other’s citizens”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó confirmed in response to a question from the press in Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár), at a joint press conference with President of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (DAHR) Kelemen Hunor.
Mr. Szijjártó told reporters that the previous evening and this morning he had come to an agreement with his Czech and Slovakian counterparts with relation to the fact that they will be enabling Hungarian Slovakian and Czech citizens who remain for no longer than 48 hours to do so without having to go into quarantine.
“We will be allowing Slovakian citizens to spend 48 hours in Hungary without the mandatory need to go into quarantine, and Slovakia is affording Hungarian citizens this same opportunity. The same will be true with relation to travel to and from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and between the Czech Republic and Hungary”, the Minister detailed. “Slovakia is allowing Hungarian citizens to travel to the Czech Republic via Slovakia, but are will not be allowing them to return via their own territory, meaning Hungarian citizens will have to return via Austria. The same is true with relation to Czech citizens returning home from Hungary”, he explained.
