“Hungary supports the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPWC) and is committed to the world being totally free of chemical weapons”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Thursday in The Hague following talks with Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Fernando Arias.

Following the meeting, Mr. Szijjártó said: “The waves of mass, illegal immigration, the increased threat of terrorism and the unprecedented level of technological development are unfortunately increasing the risk that dangerous chemical materials could fall into the hands of people with bad intentions”. “In the interests of preventing and eliminating the associated risks and dangers, all of the chemical weapons that exist around the world must be destroyed”, he added.

“Hungary clearly supports the fact that every country in the world that is still in possession of chemical weapons must destroy them immediately”, the Minister declared. “Hungary is contributing 35 thousand euros in funding towards the construction of a laboratory that will facilitate the detection of dangerous chemicals in the interests of enabling the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to also successfully take up the technological fight against people who could be developing chemical weapons”, Mr. Szijjártó highlighted.
