Hungary will be opening a consular representation in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Thursday.
According to the statement, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó held bilateral talks with Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chingiz Aidarbekov on the sidelines of today’s meeting of foreign minister of the countries of the Turkic Council in Budapest.
According to the agreement reached by the two foreign ministers, next year Hungary will be opening a consular representation in Bishkek, the Kyrgyzstani capital, while Kyrgyzstan will be appointing an honorary consul in Budapest. The parties finalised the text of the investment promotion agreement to be concluded between the two countries, and began negotiations concerning a treaty on avoiding double taxation.
The two ministers also discussed the fact that 218 young people from Kyrgyzstan applied for scholarships to attend Hungarian universities this year, 63 of whom have successfully begun their studies in Hungary.
Chingiz Aidarbekov confirmed: Kyrgyzstan is supporting Hungary’s bid for membership of the Executive Board of UNESCO, the Ministry’s statement reads.
