The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has decided to provide emergency aid to Ecuador following the recent earthquake there.

The financial assistance means Hungary will also be contributing to the emergency rescue work made necessary by the natural disaster and to providing for the basic humanitarian requirements of the affected population.

In addition to financial aid, a Hungarian rescue team is also providing assistance on site. A six-person team with three specially trained dogs from the Charis International Special Rescue Association, the Miskolc Spider Rescue Group, the Budapest Phoenix Special Rescue Team, the Legott Catholic Rescue Group and the Szolnok “Life Signs” Rescue Group arrived in the Ecuadorian capital at 14:45 local time on 19 April with the involvement of the Ecuadorian Embassy and Honorary Consulate in Budapest, the Hungarian Embassy in Quito and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Hungarian rescue team was greeted at the airport by Hungary’s Ambassador to Quito and coordinators from the Ecuadorian authorities to assure that the convoy organised to transport them reaches the earthquake-hit city of Mantra as soon as possible.
The Hungarian units now involved in international rescue efforts following the devastating earthquake on 16 April are specially trained to find and rescue survivors trapped under the rubble.
