“Hungary is sending a plane to collect the 146 Hungarians who have become trapped in Morocco after the North African country stopped all scheduled flights because of the coronavirus pandemic”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on his Facebook page on Wednesday morning.

“A few hours ago, I spoke by telephone with my counterpart, the Moroccan Foreign Minister, with whom I succeeded in coming to an agreement with relation to the fact that the plane will be receiving landing permission in Marrakech on Thursday morning, and accordingly will be able to bring home the trapped Hungarians before the total closure of Moroccan airspace”, the Minister explained.

“This case also clearly proves that scheduled air passenger service opportunities are becoming increasingly constricted”, Mr. Szijjártó underlined. For this reason, he “respectfully asked” that all Hungarian who are currently abroad and would like to come home take immediate action in the interests of travelling home, because the increasingly strict restrictions on international air traffic will soon make flying home completely impossible.
