Hungary welcomes the Iranian nuclear deal, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told journalists on Tuesday in Budapest.
The Minister took the view that stability in the Middle-East is crucial from the respect of day-to-day life in Europe. He highlighted: Europe has a vested interest in stability in the Middle-East, and this cannot be achieved without balanced cooperation with Iran.
Mr Szijjártó stressed that Hungary was a committed supporter of the series of negotiations, in the wake of which Iran is finally returning to the international community. Hungary welcomes this development, and will make every effort to make bilateral relations more dynamic in the field of economic and cultural cooperation.
The Minister believes that the negotiations of the past few months have demonstrated that we must insist on amicable solutions reached by way of talks even in the case of issues which may appear hopeless to resolve as talks may lead to results even if they take a long time and a great deal of effort, and may at times seem hopeless.
In answer to a question, Mr Szijjártó said that the lifting of sanctions on Iran will have a positive outcome for Hungary from the respect of the country’s energy security.
The Minister pointed out: Turkey will become a major gas distribution centre on the geopolitical scene, and it is to be hoped that Iranian gas, too, may play a part in this in the long run. Hungary now has to work towards the implementation of the gas pipeline project which connects Turkey with Central-Europe within the shortest possible time, and Hungary must be a participant of this project.
Mr Szijjártó said that during the course of his latest visit to Tehran, they identified a number of opportunities in economic cooperation, from among which water management, engineering services and automobile industry supplies will play a key role.
In the long run and on the whole, the return of Iran to the international community may be a progressive development for Hungary both in economic terms and in terms of energy security, the Minister confirmed.
