Hungary welcomes the negotiations started between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban in Doha. As a NATO member state actively contributing to the peace process in Afghanistan, Hungary encourages the parties to seize this historic opportunity and to resolve their existing conflicts peacefully through negotiations.

We hope that the parties will honour their commitments under the international agreements, such as the US-Taliban Agreement and the US-Afghanistan Joint Declaration, and will work in a constructive spirit to resolve the disputes and to work out the terms of a comprehensive peace agreement. A jointly created, non-violent future can provide an opportunity for the full enjoyment of human rights in Afghanistan, the protection of women, children and minorities, and can ensure that Afghanistan will never again be a haven for terrorists.

Hungary remains committed to supporting Afghanistan, the Afghan people, the security forces in Afghanistan and the peace process. The inter-Afghan talks offer a real opportunity for Afghanistan to become a stable state at peace with itself and with the world.
