“The two key areas of our cooperation with Indonesia are the economy and education”, Deputy State Secretary for Southern Opening Szilveszter Bus emphasised at a meeting with representatives of the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions of Indonesia (APTISI) on 15 May 2017.
The APTISI consists of more than 4,000 Indonesian institutions of higher education attended by nearly 5 million students, which represents 75% of all students in Indonesian tertiary education. The delegation of 40 senior university officials are n an official visit to Hungary aimed at forging closer relations with the Hungarian Government and Hungary’s higher education sector, as well as to explore student and research-related cooperation.
During the consultation with the Deputy State Secretary, the Indonesian rectors were briefed on Hungarian-Indonesian relations and possible areas for further developing cooperation between the two countries.
The guests acknowledged with satisfaction that the number of Indonesian students who submitted application for Stipendium Hungaricum scholarships for the upcoming academic year exceeded the available quota of 50 places by nearly 700 percent, which is clear proof that despite the geographical distance, Indonesian students know about Hungary and are interested in opportunities to study here.
Mr. Bus expressed his hope that Indonesian students studying in Hungary will subsequently be active promoters of cultural, business and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
