Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó regards it as a disgrace that former Italian Minister of Interior Matteo Salvini is being taken to court and not the people smugglers.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Mr. Szijjártó recalled that Matteo Salvini has been called to attend a preliminary hearing with relation to the stopping of groups of migrants in Italy. “Illegal immigration represents a security, cultural, and now also a major health risk for Europe. As Minister of Interior, Matteo Salvini prevented ‘the people smuggling gangs referred to as NGOs’ from bringing illegal immigrants into Italy, and thereby into Europe”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade wrote, according to whom, in view of this the whole of Italy and Europe owes Mr. Salvini a debt of gratitude.
