On 26 June 2015, the Foreign Ministers of the Visegrad Group countries issued a joint declaration to mark the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Charter.
Today we celebrate the seventieth anniversary of the adoption of the Charter of the United Nations.
We, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, welcome the many remarkable achievements of the UN and its member states during the past 70 years. We reaffirm our commitment to this fundamental document of international law and the purposes and principles enshrined within it.
We reaffirm our commitment to the closely interconnected and mutually reinforcing three pillars of the UN system – Security, Development and Human Rights.
We recognise the indispensable role of the United Nations in shaping responses to issues of global concern. We fully support effective multilateralism, with the United Nations at its core.
We reconfirm our constructive engagement within the framework of the United Nations based on adherence to the universal values of peace, freedom, equality, human rights and dignity, democracy and social and economic progress.
We reaffirm our full respect for and compliance with international law, including the activities of the principal judicial body of the United Nations, the International Court of Justice, and our commitment to settle international disputes by peaceful means.
We declare our support for strengthening the capacity of the United Nations system to react promptly and effectively to emerging global challenges, threats and opportunities. On the 70th anniversary of its founding, we attach great importance to the organisation’s complex and actual reform in the interests of adapting the activities of the UN to the needs and realities of the 21st century.
We are committed to the adoption of a truly universal, ambitious and transformative post-2015 development agenda to eradicate poverty and realise all three pillars of sustainable development.
We are committed to supporting the role of all interested international parties, including the involvement of regional organisations, non-governmental organisations and participants from academic life, the private sector, multilateral financial institutions and other stakeholders, in realising successful cooperation on global issues, and we shall continue to support the further development of such cooperation.
