“Over the past four and a half years, Jean-Claude Juncker has proven that he is unfit to head the European Commission”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday.

The Minister was reacting to the fact that the Romanian Foreign Minister welcomed Jean-Claude Juncker’s opinion with relation to celebration of the one-hundredth anniversary of the unification of Transylvania and Romania on 1 December, but voiced his concern about the “rhetoric of the Budapest authorities”.

With relation to the above, Mr. Szijjártó explained: “Juncker should have embodied the whole of Europe, but he was not capable of this with relation to either Brexit, migration, or the Romanian national holiday”.

“Europe will be strong and unified if we accept the fact that certain historical dates are a joy to some, but cause pain to others”, the Hungaria Foreign Minister emphasised. “It would also be important not to expect those who remember an event with sorrow to be happy about it, because such an expectation is immoral and unfair”, Mr. Szijjártó said.
