“The Slovakian and Hungarian authorities have reopened the Komárom border crossing station for citizens of the two countries, meaning people living in the region will no longer have to make a detour of some one hundred kilometres”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced in a Facebook post on Friday morning.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Szijjártó held a video conference with his Austrian, Czech and Slovak counterparts on Thursday. During the meeting, Mr. Szijjártó asked Slovakian Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák for the border crossing point at Komárom (Komarno) to be reopened. Following this, the two countries’ chiefs of police came to an agreement that same evening, and accordingly from 6 o’clock this morning Hungarians and Slovakians are now once again able to use the border crossing station at Komárom, in accordance with local border traffic regulations.
